Southern California

La Costa Resort & Spa is our featured cover story in the current Southern California edition of PGA TOUR Guide to Golf

The PGA TOUR has been proud to make Southern California home to many of the most historic golf tournaments in the world. PGA TOUR tournaments have been held here since 1926 when the Nissan Open made its debut as the Los Angeles Open at Los Angeles Country Club. Area fans and sponsors provide outstanding support for these golfers and tournaments.

Riviera Country Club, the home of the majority of the 75 previous Nissan Opens, has proven to be one of the players’ favorite courses, having served as the site of the U.S. Open and PGA Championship. The site is dubbed “Hogan’s Alley” for Ben Hogan’s success at the course and has seen Hall of Famers such as Byron Nelson, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson and Johnny Miller capture the title. The Bob Hope Chrysler Classic dates back to 1960 when Arnold won the 90-hole tournament. The desert event has been supported by legendary comedian Bob Hope since 1965 and annually draws many celebrities and athletes from other sports. The Buick Invitational has been a fixture in San Diego since 1952 and offers Torrey Pines Golf Course, one of the top public courses in the entire world.

In addition, Southern California golf fans can look forward to the Tournament Players Club at Valencia. The first TPC in California, with PGA TOUR member Mark O’Meara as the design consultant.

We hope that The PGA TOUR Guide to Golf, an officially licensed publication of the PGA TOUR, will be a thorough guide to this area, whether you’re vacationing, attending one of our outstanding tournaments or simply enjoying a casual round.
