Height: 5' 10" Weight: 160 Birthdate: January 4, 1967 Residence: Shreveport, LA Education: Louisiana State University Turned Professional: 1989 PGA TOUR Victories: 9 recent PGA Tour Victories: 2000 Michelob Championship at Kingsmill; 2001 Compaq Classic of New Orleans, PGA Championship, Michelob Championship at Kingsmill; 2003 Wachovia Championship, FedEx St. Jude Classic
Not even a quadruple bogey eight on the 18th hole could dampen the spirits of David Toms as he captured the winning seat of the 2003 Wachovia Championship. His relentless consistency on the prior 17 holes showed him to be a focused golfer, playing to win. And since it had been 20 months and 41 tournaments since his last victory, the Wachovia win was a most welcome achievement.
David Toms became a professional golfer in 1989 and joined the PGA TOUR in 1992. Since that time he has nine tour victories to his credit and entered the 2004 season ninth on the all-time money list with well over $16 million to his credit.
After a surgery in December of 2003 to remove bone spurs from his left hand, Toms is still experiencing pain, but hopes to finish out the year without incident.
In 2003, David created the David Toms foundation. The foundation helps underprivileged, abused and abandoned children through funding programs that are designed to enhance a childs character and self esteem.
