Garden Island is a world class exclusive fishing lodge at an affordable price. It is situated on a 12 acre island in the middle of the most beautiful lake in Northern Ontario.

Having a maximum of only 24 guests per week allows us to provide a high level of service that is without equal anywhere in our area, and possibly anywhere in the Province of Ontario.

As we are accessible only by air, or water, our tranquil setting offers a vacation that anyone can enjoy.

The Lodge

Garden Island Lodge is a remote lodge located on a 12 acre island at the western end of Lady Evelyn Lake. Lady Evelyn Lake and connecting lakes (Suckergut Lake, Willow Island Lake, Chris Willis Lake, Tupper Lake, and Hobart Lake), form a fisherman's and nature lover's paradise of 20,000 acres of water that is accessible only by boat, or by air; as there are no roads into Lady Evelyn you will never be bothered by highway noises.

At Garden Island Lodge a Lodge for fishing we have 9 private cabins sleeping between 2 and 6 people (larger groups are given adjacent cabins), with fridge, propane heat, ceiling fan, coffee maker (with coffee, decaffeinated coffee, hot chocolate, tea, etc.), 24 hour electricity, three piece bath (sink, flush toilet, & hot shower) large deck, and each has a spectacular view of the lake. Within the Lodge, all bedding, pillows, blankets, linens are supplied, maid service is available on request. The Sauna is centrally located next to the Lodge. The cabins are 75 to 100 feet apart to give privacy to each party, yet each cabin has over looks the lake.

The Dining Room

Our private dining room is contained in the air conditioned mainLodge building and is open only to our guests. Our breakfast menu includes among other things, pancakes and sausages, scrambled eggs and ham, bacon and eggs, toast and jam, omelettes made to order, etc. while our dinners include lasagna with garlic bread and salad, roast turkey with all the trimmings, roast pork and apple sauce, crispy chicken and rice, roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, shepherds pie, and many other favorites. We pack a shore lunch for you take out on the lake daily. The meals served in our climate controlled Lodge are superb, are prepared on-site, and are all you can eat. Our chef also offers special dietary meals for those that request them, at no additional charge at this Lodge .

The Boats

The boats and motors provided at Garden Island Lodge are some of the finest offered anywhere. With a lake the size of Lady Evelyn (19,000 acres, almost 35 miles long), it's important to have the power, speed and comfort to travel longer distances in a shorter time. Our 25 horse power electric start motors are all 2005 Yamaha 4-stroke models. The 2004 Lund 16.5 foot deep 'V' boats are exceedingly comfortable with high backed swivel pedestal seats (with lumbar support), raised flat floor, casting deck, illuminated automatic live well, storage compartments, bilge pump, Eagle fish finder with temperature read out, running lights, all required safety equipment, anchor, landing nets & catch and release cradles, life jackets, and each is equipped with a complete 'camp kitchen' for those delicious shore lunches. Unlimited gasoline for these boats is also included in our packages. Spending your day in a safe and comfortable boat is important.

Great Fishing!

The trophy fishing for walleye, northern pike, and small-mouth bass is nothing short of amazing. Each year our guests at this Northern Ontario Fishing Lodge catch a huge number of walleye over 24" with current record being 36 inches - 18 1/2 pounds. We also strongly endorse the release of all walleye over 18" to conserve our spawning sized fish. We had the best year for walleye and smallmouth fishing that I've ever seen on Lady Evelyn Lake during our 2005 season (We've been fishing Lady Evelyn Lake for 27 years). We only had 2 weeks all year when things slowed down, right around the time that Katrina hit, (those of you who were fishing in the north during hurricane Andrew in late August of 1992 may remember that fishing was effected then too), then it picked right up again in September. Some weeks we had well over 100 walleye over 18 inches caught and released (one week we had 194 walleye caught and released)!

Check out our TOP 100 WALLEYE FOR 2005 and Top Fish 2006. Our average northern pike tops well over 6 pounds with a 52" 30+ pounder being the current lodge record, and too many small-mouth over 4 pounds to count, the largest being 8.5 pounds. The Special Touch

We take great pride in the level of service offered at the Northern Ontario Lodge, including such things as cleaning your daily catch, showing your party the prime fishing spots during our Lake Orientation Tour on Saturday evening, fueling and cleaning your boat daily, supplying you automatically with fresh bait each morning and evening, drying off damp seats, and many other things too numerous to mention. Each week our staff cooks up a shore lunch with fresh walleye, onions, beans and french fries shared by the whole camp. You will always find any member of our staff willing to go that extra step to make your vacation as memorable and as relaxing as possible.

The Route

Located 18 miles by water from the end of the road, Garden Island is the only lodge within the Obabika and Lady Evelyn Smoothwater Provincial Parks.

Our access point is Mowatt Landing located :

• 7 hours driving time from Route #81 at the Thousand Islands Bridge
• 7 hours north of Route #90 at Buffalo New York
• 9 1/2 hours from Route #75 at Detroit Michigan
• 6 hours from Sault St. Marie
• 5 hours straight north of Toronto
• 2 hours north of North Bay, at the western end of Highway #558.

Flights are available via Air Canada or Air Ontario from many airports in the U.S. to either Toronto or North Bay.

Car rentals, taxis, or limousine service is available from Toronto or North Bay to the landing (please feel free to call us for further information and approximate prices for these other forms of transportation).

We meet our guests at both 8:30 A.M. or 1:00 P.M. each Saturday and transport them by pontoon boat 1 mile down river and to the other side of the Montreal River to another dock at the base of the Mattawapika Dam. All the gear is then transported by truck, 1/4 mile to the top of the dam. From that point we travel, in one of two 22 foot power boats, 17 miles to Garden Island. It takes about 1 1/4 relaxing hours to get from Mowatt Landing to the lodge.

As we are limiting the number of adult guests per week to 24 to maintain our high level of service, we would advise that you make your reservations for 2008 by telephone or e-mail as soon as possible. The reservation form should be completed and returned with a minimum deposit of $200.00 per person within 7 days of your telephone call or e-mail to confirm. A further deposit of $200.00 per person will be due 90 days prior to arrival.
